Wings Over Canada host calls it quits

For Immediate release: April 1/2008

After completing the 10th anniversary season of Wings Over Canada, John Lovelace, the series writer and producer, has decided to call it quits. "When I sold the production company back in 2005, the new ownership had asked me to stay on for three years to develop new personnel and productions," said Lovelace, adding "These three years have facilitated good growth for ATV but it is time to turn things over to the new ownership and move on to my next challenges."

The Wings Over Canada series that John created from a Vancouver cable show eventually grew into an international success story comprised of a 174 episodes chronology of Wilderness Canada with over 50 broadcasters worldwide. "I think the reason people grew to love the series is that we always tried to give it a West Coast down-to-earth style," said Lovelace. "We are always told that Wings was a refreshing contrast to the programs that come out of Toronto. Canada is, after all, a collection of regional identities. The National broadcaster brands Canada with the CN tower. We branded Canada with a loon and people warmed to the feel of the show."

While Lovelace is quitting the series he certainly is not thinking of slowing down. As President and CEO of his holding company, John Lovelace Corp., he is ramping up a multimedia business that is developing a national real estate television referral business to handle rural and wilderness sales across Canada. That expansion will also see his company invest in new aircraft and aerial photography techniques to be available in the 2010 Olympics. In 2009 John will be producing a one-hour documentary on the 100-year centennial of flight in Canada in 2009, as well as two other productions now in development.
